Philip Bliss, English antiquarian and book collector. Bliss wrote notes and the appendix to the 1811 edition of John Earle's 17th century work on characters, Micro-cosmographie. Holograph scrap-book, "Dr. Bliss's collection of characters" : (MISC 0678) : ca. 30 leaves made up of pasted-in notes, and prefaced by a number of miscellaneous papers, fragments of printed material, and one letter from an unidentified correspondent. Bound in tan boards, with a spine title lettered in pen. The work appears to be a bibliography of 17th century works on "characters," probably relating to Bliss's 1811 edition of John Earle's Micro-cosmographie. Shelved under "Bliss" with bound manuscript volumes.
